More About ICC

The ICC Afghanistan Commission on Arbitration & ADR has been formed to strengthen the presence of ICC International Court of Arbitration (“ICC Court”) and its dispute resolution services in Afghanistan. Mr. Enayat Qasimi, Partner, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP (Washington) and Member of ICC International Court of Arbitration chair the Commission.

The Commission on Arbitration and ADR is established under the structure of ICC Afghanistan and its goal is to promote ICC’s various dispute resolution services within Afghanistan and create a link among Afghan arbitrators, counsel and users to enable ICC dispute resolution and respond effectively to users’ needs in Afghanistan.

The ICC Afghanistan Arbitration and ADR Commission representatives will participate in each meetings of the ICC Commission. The ICC Afghanistan Arbitration and ADR Commission members will select the members and introduce to ICC Afghanistan for participating in the plenary sessions. At these Commission meetings, the members discuss current projects, vote on Task Force reports and have the opportunity to share ideas and views and discuss the challenges with their peers from around the world.

The ICC Afghanistan Arbitration and ADR Commission members will also provide, guidelines and best practices on a range of topics of current relevance to the world of arbitration and ADR with a view to improve ICC dispute resolution services in Afghanistan. The Commission will review the laws and regulations governing arbitration and assist the government and juridical system to use the best practice of dispute resolution. It will share the ideas and the outcomes of the ICC commission meetings and taskforce with the Government of Afghanistan.

The Nominations Committee for Arbitrators (NCA) was constituted to nominate arbitrators upon the request of the ICC Court. The Members of the NCA will lay emphasis on selecting subject matter professionals and bring diversity in the background of arbitrators selected. The members of the NCA, as long as they are in the committee, cannot nominate themselves as arbitrators and may rotate every two (2) years. The members of the NCA are as under:
